Two years after the agreement on the Gjadri camp, protest in Tirana and Lezha:
Protest in Gjader

Albanian activists and over 100 international activists held a protest in Tirana and Gjadra, Lezha today. This protest was held in connection with the two-year anniversary of the agreement between Albania and Italy for the construction of the migrant camp in Gjadra, Lezha.

The activists' banners read: 'Meloni, Rama, Von der Leyen, Trump, your re-immigration prisons are criminal. Stop funding wars and deporting immigrants.'

Another large poster features portraits of leaders Donald Trump, Ursula von der Leyen, Edi Rama and Giorgia Meloni, dressed in police and military uniforms.

The Gjadri camp was established based on an agreement signed between the Albanian and Italian governments.

According to the decree of the Italian Government, such contingents remain in the Gjadri camp until they are deported to their countries of origin, where the maximum period of stay will be 18 months. Initially, the Gjadri camp was conceived to temporarily house asylum seekers rescued at sea by Italian ships, for a period of up to 28 days.

But with the new decree of the Meloni government, "Gjadri" will also serve as a detention center for immigrants who no longer have the right to asylum and are expected to be deported to their countries of origin.
