Misinformation photo

A photo with the protagonists of two soldiers desecrating the Albanian flag and in the background the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, was published a few weeks ago by several portals in Albania.

However, according to the portal Faktoje.al through some simple ways of verification, the photo is manipulated and its publication in the context of the current war in Ukraine has clear purposes of misinformation and incitement of ethnic hatred.

The publication of this photo by some Albanian portals was done in March and April of this year, while the fighting in Ukraine is still going on. The illustrative titles of the photo convey various messages of ethnic character.

The photo bears the inscription Alamy, an international agency that owns it and since a more detailed search is proven to have been shot for the first time on March 1, 2008, according to the agency "Alamy" with the caption:

"Nationalist protesters tear down the Albanian flag as it burns, in front of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, demanding that Kiev not recognize Kosovo's independence."

On the same page there is a note where it is pointed out that the photo may have "imperfection" because it was used for reporting, another detail that raises doubts about its originality.

The picture is Vladimir Sindeyev, but surprisingly when he clicks his name which appears as a hyperlink, there is no info. Even clicking on the name on facebook or Linkedin does not display any information other than a Kazakhstan location and an announcement that the last post from this profile on the social network was in 2011.

From the verifications it is clear that the photo was used for a clearly disinformation purpose by manipulating through some elements which are, the time of photography, the time of publication and republishing, the manipulation through photoshop by placing the Albanian flag.

What remains to be seen is who has been sponsoring this disinformation campaign for years with messages that incite ethnic hatred.
