The Albanian subsoil is quite rich, starting from water resources, chrome, copper, iron-nickel, oil, gas or other extremely rare assets, from those sought after by the whole world. Albania has had a state-owned extractive and processing industry, extending throughout the country. Meanwhile, after the 90s these assets were given to private individuals, who, in addition to extorting them, have brought many dramas with dozens of victims among the workers.
Workers have been mistreated, working around the clock, while residents living near these mines have also suffered and been threatened. But, in this whole situation, the only winners from the inalienable state property are the companies, owners, directors or even managers.
In this series, VoxNews will "travel" to the Ferrochrome Plant in Burrel, a property given under concession, as the companies have changed several times. Currently, the Plant is controlled by "Albchrome", which is owned by "Albchrome Holding".

To get to the ultimate owners of the Burrel Ferrochrome or the Chrome Mine in Bulqiza, browsing dozens of documents. The owner is the company "Yildirim Albania", then "Yildirim International Investm" and finally "Yildirim International Mining". In 2022, this company controls chrome in Albania, mainly Bulqiza, Klos, Elbasan or even Tirana. Its owners are Ali Riza Yildirim and Yuksel Yildirim.
Unable to control or arrest the workers in Bulqiza, Klos, Burrel, Elbasan and Tirana, the Turks have also deployed their own “gendarmes.” In this series, we will focus on the director of Ferrokrom in Burrel, Mr. Ervin Isaj.
The editorial office of VoxNews has received dozens of complaints from workers and residents of the northern city about the pronounced arrogance of Director Isaj. He even blackmails and threatens everyone, while so far he has given them peace. Surprisingly, he was not prosecuted after the collapse of a mass of earth in Klos, a collapse that took the life of a worker.
According to documents available to VoxNews, Director Isaj was convicted for an incident that occurred on February 16, 2022, in which he allegedly mistreated a worker. He shot 62-year-old Hamit Metra.
"The director put his hands on my throat. He cursed and threatened me, claiming that 'I'm in charge here'. I went to the forensic doctor who gave me a 9-day report. I went to the Mati Court, where I won and then went to the Appeals Court," says the former employee.
The Mati court sentenced him to only a fine, due to the "gendarme's" remorse and desire to normalize the relationship with the victim. "He asked the trial panel and the fact that he expressed his willingness to make this apology even in front of the victim's collective or family members and even in the local media with the aim of reconciliation between the parties, but that was not accepted by the accusing victim," the decision states. The director was convicted on the charge of "other intentional damage."
According to the workers, the mayor Isaj has turned the Ferrochrome Plant in Burrel into his own property. He has taken over the powers from the Turks, who only want money and the barbaric exploitation of Albanian property.
According to the documents, Isaj worked on high-profile projects, such as the Banja Hydropower Project, the Langarica Hydropower Project, the Prell Hydropower Project, and as a manager at a cement company in Fushë Krujë. He initially joined Albchrome as a manager and was later promoted to plant director.

VoxNews has learned from the workers of Ferrokrom in Burrel that the director Ervin Isaj, as well as the other directors of Albchroma, continue to enrich themselves personally. There is information that they, including Isaj, have purchased real estate in Tirana. At the beginning of their work, they were renting in Tirana, while later they took out loans. They have already repaid the loan for the first apartment, bought the second and are in negotiations for villas or properties on the coast.
A galloping movement of chrome directors, while Ervin Isaj himself owns a private company. The firm was created years ago, while there are doubts that it was created for a money laundering scheme. However, what is visible on paper or even on the ground is that the Turkish directors behave like "gendarmes" in the properties of the Albanian state, mismanaging them only for personal gain. Even to the detriment of the workers and the interests of the state itself, which has granted these assets with a concession.
