A 30-year-old Albanian has been arrested in the Netherlands. On March 14, cameras captured an Opel Insignia, which police stopped for inspection. 5 kilograms of cocaine hidden under the dashboard were found in the car.
The Public Prosecution requests 3 years in prison for the 30-year-old.
Justice suspects that the Albanian was involved in international drug smuggling.
The car he drove regularly crossed the German border at Venlo before entering Belgium.
The 30-year-old told police he was on his way to Dusseldorf, but could not explain why Google Maps had been set up at a destination in Hamburg.
"If he had really left for Düsseldorf, he was very far from the road," the court said.
"I was lost," the Albanian explained.
"I had met a girl through TikTok and I wanted to meet her."
In his testimony, he also said that the car in which the cocaine was found was borrowed from a stranger in Germany who did not even know his name. The judges called the story bizarre.
"You say you got a car from someone you do not know and do not know his name or where he lives. "This is a strange story, sir," the Court told the young Albanian.
Attorney Alexander Admiral told the court that his client had no idea the drugs were hidden in the car.
"He had no idea there was a hidden space in the car he borrowed. The client certainly did not know it contained five kilograms of cocaine. "
He demanded the release of the 30-year-old Albanian. He referred to the decisions of other courts that acquitted persons driving a car with a partition hidden in it.
The suspect spoke at the end of the hearing: "If you are convinced that I was actually aware of the drugs in the car, I ask you not to sentence me to three, but to thirty years."
The court will decide within two weeks.
