The Special Prosecutor's Office has signed an arrest warrant for the former mayor of Durres, Vangjush Dako, and several former officials of the Municipality of Durres.
Former officials are accused of corruption and falsification of documents.
In total, it is about 10 arrest warrants that have been signed by the court and are security measures of arrest and imprisonment.
It is learned that a few months ago, Vangjush Dako was asked by two SPAK prosecutors about the legalization of 3 floors of a building damaged by the earthquake, under the suspicion that it was illegally legalized by the officials of the Durres Municipality at that time.
The operation is ongoing and it is the BKH agents who, in addition to the execution of the arrest warrants, are also conducting checks in the residences of suspected persons.
Investigations into the issue of legalization in Durrës have been ongoing for at least 1 year.
Vangjush Dako led the Municipality of Durrës for 3 terms until 2019. In 2019, Dako and his family members were added to the list of Albanian officials who are not allowed to enter the territory of the United States of America.
DASH announced at the time that the Secretary of State placed the mayor of Durrës and his close family members on the black list of the United States, due to Dako's involvement in major corruption cases.
Dako's name was mentioned in the interceptions published by the German newspaper "Bild" as being involved in the buying of votes in Durrës. He was also interrogated by the Serious Crimes Prosecutor's Office at the time for this matter as well.
