The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani , said that the date for the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly will be set very soon.
Osmani, during a statement to journalists on March 28, said that the Presidency has received today the official letter of the election results from the Central Election Commission (CEC), after the election results for the February 9 elections were certified the day before.
She said she will respect the legal deadline to convene a constitutive session within 30 days.
"At the moment, my legal team is analyzing how much time may be needed to prepare for this session, so that when the session is called, it will be successful, that is, the constitution of the Assembly will be successful. Everything will be done within the constitutional deadline. At the moment, I cannot give you a date, because I want to be precise, but you will have the date very soon," said Osmani.
After the certification of the elections, the first step towards the formation of new institutions is to hold the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo.
During this session, the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly are elected, and new deputies take the oath.
The proposal for the new mayor belongs to the first party in the election, in this case, the Vetëvendosje Movement.
Meanwhile, the largest political parties propose one candidate for vice president, but also the deputies of the Serbian community and those of non-majority communities must propose one deputy for the position of vice president.
The President and Vice-Presidents are elected by a majority of votes. The constitutive session, according to the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, ends with their election.
"Interruptions during the constitutive session cannot be longer than 48 hours," states Article 12, point 5 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly.
Only after the constitutive session has concluded, the president can proceed with her legal obligations to mandate the first party to form the new Government.
However, it is at its discretion to subsequently mandate other parties to form the executive, if the first party fails to obtain the support of 61 deputies in the Assembly for the new Government./REL
