Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari, the director of the City Police, Skënder Hita, and other leaders have landed in Saranda following the scandal at "CopaCabana", the unlicensed 'beach bar' that led to the dismissal of the city's police chief.
Lamallari said that anyone who thinks that public interests are personal is wrong.
"Saranda and the entire Albanian coast are national assets. If someone thinks that public interests can be aligned with the boundaries of private property, they are very wrong. The quick reaction of the police and surveillance structures was the first message for the week to show that it cannot be a game and we should wait until the 7-story concrete building is built," said Lamallari.
He demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, while making it clear to the blue uniforms that the duty must be done with honor or else there will be consequences.
"This requires an in-depth investigation, in addition to the direct responsibility of those employees who are responsible or have flirted with illegality, this applies to every corner of the Albanian coast. The message is very clear, there are two paths for someone who has a duty to enforce the law: to do their duty with honor, but anyone else who thinks they can do something like this should do the calculations themselves."
"In addition to illegal construction, there is another thing: security and its perception by citizens. A tire shooting would be unacceptable, let alone illegal possession of weapons. Uniformed employees should not turn a blind eye, but show everyone their place. This is why your colleagues are not at the table today, but are facing justice," said Lamallari.
