Journalist Anila Hoxha has shed light on an internal conflict within the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP), which, according to her, calmed down only after international intervention.

In a live broadcast on the show "Breaking" with Fiori Dardha on Top News, Hoxha said that it all started with a proposal from KLP member Erind Mërkuri, who sent an email to colleagues suggesting changes to the regulation for the voting method for the SPAK chief prosecutor.

The law provides that the head of SPAK be elected by a majority vote, but Merkuri requested that this majority be discussed whether it should be "qualified" or not.

"This suggestion sparked an internal debate and was kept off the agenda at today's KLP meeting. In fact, it was not discussed at all in the session, which means that the current regulation remains in force," the journalist declared.

She added that Mërkuri was not alone, as unofficially it is said that he had three more supporters, among them KLP member Vat Staka, who was in favor of the changes. But international pressure, according to Hoxha, was decisive.

"The message from the internationals has been very clear. If the voting method were changed and a qualified majority were required, the process would risk entering a deadlock. History has shown how Arben Kraja and Altin Dumani won the leadership of SPAK with difficulty, even with only one vote difference from their opponents. A qualified majority would make the election of the chief prosecutor almost impossible," Hoxha emphasized.
