Altin Dumani signs seizure order against accounts of companies linked to

The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has seized the bank accounts of companies linked to the Zvërnec project. Kapitali has learned that the seizure was ordered by prosecutor Altin Dumani.

It is not yet known how much money was seized and in which companies. But a few days ago, the Khayyat brothers transferred $195 million to the National Commercial Bank, money that would be used to pay for the purchase of land and the start of construction work for the resort.

Qatari investors, partners of Jared Kushner, have opened two companies in Albania for the Zvërnec project. Initially by opening a branch of their company Urbacon Trading and Contracting, one of the largest construction companies in the Arab world, in Albania, and later by establishing the company Sazan Operations Holding.

The latter, although named after Sazan, will be engaged in the Zvërnec project.

It is still unclear what the motivation was for blocking the money, as the Khayyat brothers are among the richest families in Qatar and own a multi-billion dollar empire. But apparently the blocking of financing is a preventive measure to prevent property transactions as part of the investigations that SPAK is conducting into this project. Meanwhile, sources say that the Zvërnec case has been under investigation by the Special Prosecution Office for more than a year.

The Zvërnec project has already taken a significant hit, while it remains to be seen what the reaction of Qatari investors and especially Jared Kushner will be. Faced with a similar situation in Serbia, the Kushner family withdrew from the project to build a luxury hotel as soon as the Serbian prosecutor's office opened an investigation into the matter.

The situation in Zvërnec has escalated into massive protests over the last two days, while the government accuses that these protests are also being instigated by external factors, especially Greece, which do not want Albania to attract investments of this magnitude./ kapitali.al
