Alarm in Italy, 2.5 million infected with flu, expert: Wear masks

At least 2.5 million citizens have been infected with the flu so far, according to official figures from the Italian authorities.

What are the symptoms?

On average, symptoms last five days, with high fever and in some cases bone pain, sore throat, loss of appetite and runny nose.

Epidemiology expert Giovanni Rezza, in his statements to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, called on Italians to be vaccinated against the flu and reminded that above all the elderly and the most vulnerable categories should wear masks.

Cases are expected to peak over the Christmas period, with approximately 250,000 cases per day.
