The accusation and several versions: What happened in the marathon trial in

The Saranda Court has held a marathon session of about 10 hours regarding the serious incident that occurred in Ksamil, where Portuguese tourist Luis Mendes lost his life.

Sokrat Vata, accused of the intentional murder, committed in collaboration, of the Portuguese tourist, has expressed remorse before the court, which imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" after the hearing held on Friday, August 22.

The 29-year-old gave his version of the incident to the black squads, claiming that he had no intention of causing the tourist's death.

"I deeply apologize to Lucy's family and at the same time to the authorities of the victim's state. I had no idea that the person had passed away. It was not the desired consequence, it was a very big hassle."

I intervened to maintain calm, because there were many other customers. At that moment I heard swearing and insults towards me and Daniel. I understood the words, because I know several languages.

We had a verbal altercation and then 5-6 people attacked me. I didn't understand what was happening. I saw myself on the ground and one of these strangers hit me very hard.

I didn't have a knife. I saw it in Luis's hand and, to neutralize the situation, I managed to take it away from him. After I took the knife from his hand, another fight broke out.

"I didn't understand what I did or what happened. I was unconscious. 5-6 people hit me and I didn't understand what was happening."

Witnesses questioned in court said that Vata had signs of bruising, swelling, and scratches suspected to have been caused by a cutting instrument on his body.

The 29-year-old himself claimed that he had suffered several serious injuries as a result of blows with a cutting tool and punches.

Meanwhile, the Turkish citizens who accompanied Vata by vehicle after the incident claimed they were unaware of what had happened.

The testimony of Nuh Mahmutoglu, defended in court by lawyer Joy Nela, aimed to exonerate the driver of the vehicle, in whose trunk Vata was found, from liability.

He said that the driver was unaware that the 29-year-old was in the vehicle, while also explaining the reason why they took him to transport him to Tirana and how he ended up in the luggage.

"I met Ezgi Parlak a few days ago, she arrived in Albania on August 16. I am registered in Durrës as a physical business, with activity in car rental.

We met online, after he wrote to me on Instagram about a car. Then we became friends these days.

Socrates appeared on the day of the incident, covered in blood, and asked me for help, claiming that he had crashed his motorcycle and had gotten into a conflict with several people.

Before I picked up Ezgi, Sokrati told me he wanted to sleep and asked me to sleep in the trunk. That's what happened. Then we picked up Ezgi and headed towards Tirana.

The driver of the vehicle didn't know that Socrates was in the trunk, let alone what had happened. I didn't know anything about the murder either.

"I know Socrates because I often frequented 'Principote'. He worked as a host, while I frequented it to relax."

In the closed-door session, most of the waiters and bodyguards, including police officers, claimed that they had not understood what was happening during the conflict and had intervened to separate the people involved.

According to evidence, some of the foreign nationals were also involved in the fight.

"When we went outside, we saw people, the ambulance and the police. We didn't understand what had happened. We saw some foreign citizens giving them first aid," said one of the staff members in front of the black squads.

The employees also claimed that they had notified the police and the ambulance themselves, presenting evidence that, according to them, supports the testimonies given.

During the court hearing, several video footage of the incident was shown.

After about 10 hours of hearing, Judge Shkëlzen Licaj imposed the security measure "Arrest in prison" for Sokrat Vata, alias Sokrat Lipan, accused of murder, as well as for Turkish citizens Ezgi Parlak and Nuh Mahmutoglu.

The security measure "Arrest in prison", with a term of 45 days, was also imposed on Ildi Cekani, Ervis Bunci and Serxhi Selimi, waiters at the "Principote" bar.

Meanwhile, police officer Moisid Matushaj, Fier prison officer Lucjano Seferi and Gjirokastra Municipal Police officer Romeo Shehu, who worked as bodyguards, were placed under the security measure "Obligation to report to the judicial police".

The same measure was also imposed on waiter Murat Zhabina and bodyguard Kristi Koshi.

In the footage of the entry of the arrested persons into the Saranda Court, Sokrat Vata appeared with his head held high and obedient to the police officers. In the background, family members could be heard calling out, offering support to the murder suspect.

Investigations to fully elucidate the incident continue.
