SPAK Prosecutor, Adnan Xholi, is the first candidate to have formalized his interest in the position of Prosecutor General.

He has submitted his application to the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP), thus entering the race to lead the central prosecution body.

Xholi is not a new name in the race for leadership positions in the justice system. He has previously run twice for head of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), while also holding the position of head of the Anti-Organized Crime Section at SPAK.

Candidates interested in the position of Prosecutor General have until August 1, at 00:00, to submit their applications. It is expected that other names will join the race by the end of this deadline.

After the applications close, the KLP will begin the process of verifying the legal conditions of the candidates, which must be completed by August 14. Following this, the KLP will propose three candidates to the Assembly, while the final selection of the Prosecutor General rests with the Parliament, for a 7-year mandate.

The mandate of the current head of the General Prosecutor's Office, Olsian Çela, ends in December.
