Gjirokastra was shocked by a serious event this Thursday. The elderly couple Kosta Ilia, 84 years old, and Kleoniqi Ilia, 88 years old, were found dead and with signs of violence on their bodies, in the village of Bodrishte, Dropull Municipality.

Their dead bodies were spotted by neighbors, who then informed the police. Journalist Kristina Fidhi brought details from the scene for "Albania LIVE", as she reported that the 88-year-old woman was found dead in the apartment, while the 84-year-old man was found dead in the yard with a wound behind the head.

She said that it was initially thought to be a robbery, but no evidence has been found to support this hypothesis, and the track of a violent robbery has been ruled out. The police have informed that the doors or windows of the apartment of the elderly couple were not damaged, and inside there was no mess or disorders of the furniture. For this reason, the first suspicions are that a crime may have been committed in the family.

According to the residents of the village, the elderly man was being treated for mental health problems in recent years.

"The bodies are expected to come out after the preliminary investigations have been completed. Initially, it was thought that we are dealing with a robbery, an area where these events are frequent as it is an isolated village and many lonely elderly people live there. But no signs of robbery were found, as nothing was missing from the house, not even money. The alarm for them was given by the elderly woman's sister, who does not live here. They have no children, only sisters and brothers. The neighbors found the door of the apartment closed and entered through the wall. There in the yard they found the elderly man hit on the back of the head, while inside the house was his lifeless wife, with signs of violence on her body. The old man was last seen by a neighbor, after he had gone to look for the device in the tension. It is reported that during the last years, Kosta Ilia had problems with his mental health and was taking medication, official confirmation is expected. It is suspected that they may have had a conflict, the two elderly people had arguments that were also heard by the neighbors, therefore they may have violated each other. The sister talked to them two days ago and yesterday she tried to communicate but she couldn't," said the journalist.
