A joint operation by Greek police and DEA agents has led to the arrest of six people in Greece, suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
At the center of the operation is a shipment of about 100 kilograms of cocaine, which was allegedly hidden in a shipment of roses coming from Colombia.
Journalist Artur Bibe, in a live link from Athens for Fiori Dardha's "Breaking" show on Top News, revealed that initially four people were reported arrested, but the number of detainees is now six. Four of them have been confirmed as Albanian citizens, while the other two are also suspected of being Albanian.
According to Bibes, the four arrested people were caught red-handed and are suspected of being the hosts of the drug shipment. Meanwhile, two other people were found in an apartment that was also used as a warehouse for roses.
Greek investigators suspect that the group may have other people involved, who have not yet been arrested.
"Apparently, the lines from Colombia and Ecuador to Greece have been reactivated," said journalist Artur Bibe, referring to investigation data.
The cargo had arrived at Athens airport camouflaged among flowers. According to the report, the import of flowers from Latin American countries is a common activity in Greece, which may have served as a cover for the transport of narcotics.
The operation was conducted by Greek authorities in collaboration with DEA agents. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the entire network and identify other individuals who may be part of the suspected trafficking organization.
