An international operation between the State Police and US federal law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest in New York of one of the most wanted persons by Albanian justice, twice sentenced to 25 years in prison for three murders committed in the Shkodra District.

In the framework of cooperation with the US federal agency DSS/OCIU at the US Embassy in Tirana, as well as the two federal agencies USMS (US Marshals Service) and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), it was possible to locate and arrest 52-year-old Valentin Ftoni.

Ftoni had been internationally wanted since 2001. Investigations revealed that he had left Albania using forged documents and at least two false identities to illegally enter the US, where he then used another false identity obtained from a Central American country.

On September 28, 2001, the Shkodra Court sentenced him to 25 years in prison for the premeditated murder in collaboration of citizens Gjelosh and Adrana Markaj, an event that occurred on September 19, 2000 in the village of Ças, Velipoja, for blood feud motives.

On November 18, 2008, the Shkodra Court sentenced him again to 25 years in prison for the premeditated murder of citizen Gac Toma, committed on August 12, 2001.
