23-year-old figure skating champion dies after being hit by truck in Austria

Figure skater Julia Marie Gaiser has died in a road accident in Austria. She was hit by a truck at an intersection in Salzburg.

Emergency crews attempted to revive her at the scene, but the 23-year-old died at the scene. Local authorities opened an investigation into the incident, while the truck driver tested negative for alcohol.

Salzburg Mayor Andreas Jungmann expressed his condolences to her family and described the loss as a great loss for the world of sports. Fans have reacted widely on social media with messages of condolence.

Gaiser previously represented Italy in figure skating before joining the Austrian team. She was part of Eis Team Salzburg, with whom she won three consecutive titles in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The federation
