Portuguese magazine TV Guia has caused a wave of public outrage with its latest cover, bringing to light the tragic loss of footballer  Diogo Jota  and his brother,  André Silva , who died on July 3 in a car accident.

Instead of focusing on the family's tributes and grief, the magazine chose to highlight an alleged closeness between Jota's closest friend, midfielder  Ruben Neves , and his widow,  Rute Cardoso .

A sensational headline and a controversial photo

On the front page, TV Guia published the headline: “ Ruben Neves and Rute. United after death ”, accompanying the text with a photo where the two are seen embracing. This image, taken out of context, was considered a serious manipulation and caused strong reactions on social networks.

"If I were them, I would sue this magazine. A disgrace with no respect for people," wrote one user, whose message was shared over a million times.

Ruben Neves' calm reaction

Neves himself reacted publicly to condemn the publication. The Al-Hilal player stressed that the photo had been used unfairly and expressed his pride in his family:

"My wife, Débora Lourence, and I have been together for 11 years, happy and proud of the family we have. We have helped Rute and her family with all our hearts. The choice of this photo is unfortunate and shameful. I respect those who work honestly, but not those who do not respect others," he wrote on social media.

Harsh reactions

Other public figures also came out in support of him. Katia Aveiro, Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, reacted strongly, calling the publication "a shameful and inhumane coverage."

"No one with a heart would do such a thing. I am ashamed to see it and I am ashamed of my country. The bill will come, whether divine or human," she wrote on Instagram.

A magazine at the center of criticism

The event has sparked a wide-ranging debate about the limits of sensationalist media in Portugal and the lack of respect for privacy and human pain.

At the moment, TV Guia has not given any official reaction to the controversy./ TV Guia
