 A Brazilian high court ordered the blocking of Robinho's passport on Friday, while the possibility of whether the former player can serve his sentence in Italy for rape will be analyzed in the country, official sources reported.

Italian justice sentenced Robinho to nine years in prison for participating in the gang rape of a young Albanian woman in Milan in 2013.

The decision was made by the magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, Francisco Falcão, who took into account the seriousness of the crime, the international consequences of the case and the financial situation of the player, which could facilitate an eventual escape from Brazil.

According to the statement released by the entity, the judge considered "indications" that the former footballer "tried to evade Italian criminal law" and, also, " could also leave Brazil to avoid serving the sentence ".

" In this sense, while this request for approval is being processed, it is convenient to establish precautionary measures in addition to imprisonment to guarantee, a possible decision in the future, in accordance with the request for the execution of the sentence in the national territory" , said the magistrate.

Last October, Italy requested the extradition of the former Real Madrid and AC Milan forward after convicting him of rape, but under the Brazilian constitution extradition of nationals is prohibited. For this reason, Italy requested that the sentence be carried out in the country of origin.

The events took place in 2013 when, according to the investigation, Robinho allegedly forced the woman, then 23 years old, to drink until she was unconscious and then forced her together with a group of friends to have sex in a nightclub toilet. At that time, the footballer had a contract with Milan, the team he was in for four seasons (2010-2014).
