Lionel Messi has added another award to his rich trophy cabinet, this time not for his achievements on the field, but for his special connection to the city that welcomed him when he was 12 years old, Barcelona.

The Argentine star was named by Sport magazine as " The Most Beloved Player in Barcelona's History ", accepting the honor in Miami through an emotional video showing the gratitude of the Catalan club's fans.

The 38-year-old, visibly moved and teary-eyed, recalled his dream of ending his career at Barça, emphasizing that, unfortunately, it did not come true.

He added that he would always return to live in the city he loves as home.

"We have been through a lot together, good and difficult moments. But it is my home, my country, my people. I would have liked to have spent my entire career there without leaving," Messi said.

The Argentine did not leave without mentioning the open wound from his departure, forced by the club's financial difficulties and the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced him to leave an empty stadium.

"Unfortunately, things turned out differently, but I will always have beautiful memories of all the moments we shared. I am grateful to the fans and I have a special love for everyone," said Messi, reminiscing about an unforgettable career at Barça.
