Luiza Gega broke the record in the 21 km Tirana Marathon race

Luiza Gega is the champion of the 21 km race in the Tirana Marathon. The champion broke the record previously held by herself, with a time of 70 minutes and 18 seconds. In an interview for the media, Gega recounts the experience with this return to a road race, which comes after a busy season for the athlete.

Luiza Gega: Today I competed in the 21 km discipline, otherwise half-marathon. I broke a new national record, the record was actually held by me. I broke this in April, precisely in the championship that was held here in Tirana that was held with a time of 70 minutes and 58 seconds, while today's time was 70 minutes and 18 seconds, I improved 40 seconds on the record. To be honest, I was skeptical at first as I had a very short preparation time because I came from a very intense season and I gave myself some time off to start again, but the race went very well. What makes me happy is that I continue to be in a very good performance. The coach had faith that I could do it. I tried hard until the end even though I was tired to tell the truth, I was tired because it requires a lot of preparation, be it 21, even more so 42,

Gega added that the organization has improved year after year, as has the participation of people. She appreciated the importance of this event and expressed her happiness that Tirana finally has its own marathon like other capitals of the world. Among other things, the champion confessed about the number of records this year as well as the goals for the future.

Luiza Gega:  There are many. I believe I didn't count them. I know that this year alone I broke, make no mistake, 6 records, of course in different disciplines. In the track races, because that's where I'm also in focus, until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games because that's where I'm in focus, in the track races and in my race that I've been training for many years for 3000 meters with obstacles, but that I believe very much that in the future I will take road racing even more seriously to bring bigger records because of course I didn't get my best in road racing, these just come as a good preparation that I do for track racing , but that comes naturally to me then this road record, but I still have to give in road races, if I train more specifically, precisely for these races.
