Prime Minister Edi Rama called the qualification of the Albanian national football team for Euro 2024 "a significant success for the whole nation and our people".

Present at the Evening of Sports Stars 2023, the head of the Albanian government said that this shows that when a group of people "with talent, desire and above all with dedication to make every sacrifice to achieve the common goal and of course with good organization and the right direction, nothing can stop them".

In his speech, Rama emphasized, among other things, that the rewards for Albanian athletes who bring medals to our country are among the highest in Europe.

"...all athletes who achieve results are rewarded and included in a system that ensures that even after the end of the sports activity, all these champions have an honorable place in society. Being involved in the FA, in the Security Forces, having high ranks, which of course, on the one hand, are symbolic because they do not exercise the activities of colonels, etc., but as much as they are symbolic, they are also matched with a secure salary for life and a pension relevant that comes after the salary. Without counting another fact that the rewards for our athletes who bring medals to our country are among the highest in Europe. This is the only way we have made it possible to stop the departure of athletes and even to have athletes coming from other countries and not only from the east, but also from the west, to compete with the Albanian flag by becoming Albanian citizens".

At the end of his speech, the prime minister had a special thank you for the president of the European Olympic Committee, who was present in the hall. Among the jokes, Rama also revealed the desire for the national team coach, Sylvinho, to obtain Albanian citizenship, something that, as he said, the Brazilian has accepted with pleasure.

"I want to give a very special thanks to the president of the European Olympic Committee, who is honoring us today with his presence, together with the general secretary. Coincidence wants one to be Greek, the other Italian, so, Greek, Italian, Albanian, we are in one family. We also have a Brazilian to not spoil the evil eye. But if we leave the Greek and the Italian as they are, we will make the Brazilian an Albanian, because we have shared our opinion together with the president of the federation, but he has also accepted with pleasure to receive the Albanian citizenship".

Albanian sports stars were honored with special awards at the gala evening organized by the Albanian National Olympic Committee dedicated to the best athletes and coaches of the last 2 years, who have made Albania proud with their high results in the international arena. Edi Rama handed over the appreciation trophy from the Albanian Olympic Committee to coach Sylvinho.
