The president of the Turkish Ankaragucu team, Faruk Koca, has been banned for life because of the punch to the main referee, Halil Umut Meler.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Super League club has been fined 60,000 and will play the next five home games behind closed doors.
"I resigned from the post of president in order to prevent Ankaraguçu, the fans and my family from suffering further damage," said the 59-year-old Koca, who was also rumored as a possible candidate for mayor of Ankara.
He continues to be in custody along with two other people who hit referee Meler, with the latter suffering head trauma from the blows.
The Turkish football championship will resume on December 19.
