Giorgio Chiellini announced his retirement from football. The former defender of Juventus and the representative of Italy ended his career at the age of 39. He made the decision just a few weeks before the end of his contract with Los Angeles FC.
Just a few days ago, the legendary defender had hinted that the Major League Soccer final lost to the Columbus Crew would be his last game.
Known with the epithet "King Kong" for his physical strength and endless duels on the field, Chiellini ended his 23-year career as a professional. He spent 17 of those seasons with Juventus, where he collected 561 games and is third in the all-time special classification, behind Del Piero and Buffon.
His track record confirms his excellent career. 9 championship titles in a row in Serie A, 5 Cups and 5 Italian Supercups won. The title in the American championship is added to these trophies, at the end of 2022.
With Italy, Chiellini counts 117 matches, in 22 of which he was captain. It was with the ribbon on his arm that he lifted the European Champion trophy in 2021 at Wembley.
In the future of Giorgio Chiellini, the management of Juventus seems to have a role. The club in white paid tribute to the legend with a video showing the biggest shirt ever created coming out of the Allianz Stadium.
