Uruguayan football is in mourning. After five days in hospital, Nacional's Juan Izquierdo breathed his last today at the age of 27.
The center back of the Montevideo team fell in the early hours of last Friday on the field, during the match against Sao Paulo for the 1/16 of the Copa Libertadores.
Unfortunately, he could not overcome the problem, which caused him to lose consciousness and a few hours ago he passed away.
His team, Nacional and the entire football of the country, is in mourning after the serious event. We recall that the incident happened in the 75th minute of the match at the "Morumbi" stadium in Sao Paulo. The defender from the Uruguayan capital collapsed on the field. Izquierdo regained consciousness before entering the ambulance and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. But, unfortunately, he failed to overcome the problem (heart arrhythmia according to reports), which caused him to lose consciousness and then die.
Con el más profundo dolor e impacto en nuestros corazones, el Club Nacional de Football communicates the passing of our beloved player Juan Izquierdo.
