Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon has decided to retire from the world of football. An understandable choice, but the world of football has lost what was perhaps the strongest goalkeeper ever.

His historic manager Silvano Martina spoke to TME during the 'A tu per tu' column, also revealing some behind the scenes in Super Gigi's career.

During the interview, a comment about his move to Juventus stands out, from which Buffon's extraordinary career then developed:

"Parma had found an agreement with Barcelona. I went to Spain and everything was going according to plan. After I returned to Milan Luciano Moggi called me: 'Where are you going? Buffon should be ours'. I said 'write' and he replied: 'Then come tomorrow'. Gigi's story with Juve started from there", said Martina.

And about the current decision to retire: “In 2018, when he decided to leave, I was not happy because he could still do a lot. I went to Turin, we had a coffee and he said he was happy to retire.

I joked with him: 'In the forties it might be acceptable, but if I have PSG tomorrow?' He replied: 'I will go at once.' At forty-five years old, getting on the field and throwing yourself on the ground every day is not easy".
