Italian referee burst into tears after Champions League match, coach reveals reason

Referee Alessando Giallatini caught everyone's attention at the end of the Champions League match between Leipzig and Aston Villa.

The Italian linesman burst into tears immediately after the final whistle, causing players and coach Marco Rose to approach him.

The latter also revealed the reason in the statement after the match, saying that for Giallatini, this was the last match in refereeing.

"I asked him what had happened to him. He told me that this was his last match as a referee. A beautiful and emotional story. I congratulated him and told him that now he has more time available and that he should use it in the right way and take care of his family," declared Marco Rose.

Giallatini has been wearing the FIFA emblem since 2013, and has been part of major matches, participating in Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
