174 dead in Indonesia, Infantino: Football's darkest day

An unprecedented, very tragic event took place on Saturday evening at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Indonesia. The end of the Arema FC-Persebaya challenge turned into a war arena, where the fans of the two sides started to clash with each other.

The intervention of the police force not only did not calm the situation, on the contrary, it worsened it, where the fans began to clash with the law enforcement forces, while the latter began to use tear gas and forceful means to disperse the fans.

The balance of this serious event turned into a tragedy where so far 174 fans have died while hundreds of others are seriously injured and in critical condition.

Shocked by this situation, the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, also appeared: "The world of football is in shock following the incidents that happened in Indonesia. This is a dark day for all those involved in football, an unparalleled tragedy. I express my condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident," reads, among other things, the reaction of the FIFA president.
