Aleksander Ceferin has lost one of his supporters and the blow he received recently will have serious consequences for his image and the institution.
Zvonimir Boban, the Technical Director at UEFA, has resigned from his post, in protest against Ceferin's decision to change the statute in order to stay one more term at the head of the organization.
"With sadness and a broken heart, I have no other option but to leave UEFA", he emphasized in a statement published by "BIld".
The legend of Milan has insisted that Ceferin does not think about football, but only about personal ambitions with the decision he made to change the statute in favor of re-election again at the end of this term, which should have been his last.
"Even though I have expressed my deep concerns and my complete rejection of the plan, the UEFA president does not see any legal, let alone moral and ethical, problem. He wants to continue with his plan in order to pursue his personal ambitions. The rules are in place to protect UEFA and European football from maladministration, which has unfortunately been "normal behavior" for many years. Ceferin's change of direction was absolutely incomprehensible. I am aware that nothing is ideal, including me, and sometimes compromises are necessary. However, supporting this change would go against all my principles and values, which I wholeheartedly believe in and which I defend. I am not trying to play the role of the hero, as I am not the only one who thinks so", said Boban, hinting that other figures within UEFA are ready to act in the same way.
