Kosovo, in the early hours of October 7, 2026, has a new president, after months of this vacant position - held by an acting president. Justina Shiroka-Pula is the first in the country to serve in this position for a 5-year term.

Shiroka-Pula's confirmation as head of state came after being voted on by 81 deputies in the extraordinary session.

But Shiroka-Pula's election to the position of head of state was followed by another woman. It was Vjosa Osmani, the president who served from 2021 to 2026 in this position.

Previously, a woman also held this position. It was Atifete Jahjaga who was elected in 2011 and served until 2016.

Thus, Kosovo has become one of the few countries in the world that has had three women as heads of state in its history as a young state. It is worth noting that Shiroka-Pula is the seventh President of the Republic of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, in Tirana, the situation is different. Albania has yet to elect a female president in its history, despite its long years as a consolidated and independent state, unlike Kosovo, which is a clear example of trust in the women and girls of the still fragile Republic.
