This Tuesday marks the deadline for electing a president for Kosovo. If the Assembly fails, it will dissolve and the country will go to new elections. Consequently, it is also the last opportunity for this composition of the Assembly to vote on the amendments to the Law on Specialized Chambers in second reading.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has appeared at a second press conference announcing the names of Glauk Konjufca and Feride Rushiti as presidential candidates. Kurti also addressed a proposal to PDK leader Bedri Hamza, saying that he would consider the proposal for the law on Special tonight if he pledges that his parliamentary group will go to the Assembly for a vote.
Bedri Hamza has refused to back the election of the new head of state.
Hamza has also rejected Prime Minister Albin Kurti's second offer to pass amendments to the law on the Special Court and the election of the president in a session this evening.
A short while ago, Kurti said that his party will pass the PDK's proposed amendments to the Special Court law to a second reading tonight, if it votes for the ruling party's Glauk Konjufca or Feride Rushiti as the new president of Kosovo.
Hamza responded now by saying "this is not serious at all."
"This topic is being tried to turn into last-minute bargaining," Hamza added.
According to him, Kurti wants "full authority" over Kosovo's main institutions.
"The goal is to use the law simply and directly for blackmail to achieve the political goal of having a political president and to completely conclude the capture of state institutions," he said.
Hamza said that he last communicated with Kurti at noon today, when he informed him that for the Democratic Party of Kosovo "the law must pass the second reading and then we can talk and have an agreement on the president."
"Is this what they call an agreement? This is what they call a law on a major, national issue, if I vote for it because this is the president," he added.
Albin Kurti's proposal for PDK
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said that his party will pass the PDK's proposed amendments to the Special Court law to a second reading starting tonight, if PDK votes for Glauk Konjufca or Feride Rushiti as the new president of Kosovo.
Kurti has expressed his willingness for the LVV to vote on the law on Special, before proceeding with the vote for the new president of Kosovo.
"So, we vote on the draft law for the Special Court in advance and then tonight immediately vote for president, Glauku or Feridja," Kurti said.
