Since the opening of the registration process on Saturday, there has been a great interest among immigrants to vote in the May 11 elections.

So far, there are 11,000 Albanian emigrants registered on the platform. The figures are made public by the Central Election Commission and are constantly updated.

The CEC calls on all Albanian emigrants who want to vote from the country where they are located to register for the May 11 elections. The Chief Electoral Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi, states that in less than 72 hours, 10,000 emigrants were registered.

"The CEC Albania encourages all Albanian citizens who want to vote from abroad to register as soon as possible to participate in the Parliamentary Elections on May 11, 2025. Share the link so that your friends and relatives can also apply. Registration is easy and fast. Visit diaspora.kqz.gov.al and don't miss this unique opportunity to write history together. Your vote, your voice for Albania! Vote for the May 11 elections! Download the CEC mobile application for Android and IOS, or visit www.kqz.gov.al (Abroad Voters section) to get all the information on how you can vote from outside the territory of Albania for the 2025 Albanian Parliamentary Elections," Celibashi writes on "Facebook".

Diaspora registrations opened on January 11 and will close on March 4. Parliamentary elections are held on May 11.

For the first time in an electoral process in Albania, Albanians abroad will also be able to vote. Albanians abroad must apply through PER to register for the elections.

They can access the electronic registration platform through the CEC application on their phone, as well as from the CEC website in the overseas voter space.

The CEC has explained that every citizen living abroad must create an account on PER. He/she has two options for creation, either via number or 'email' which must be correct.

Then a message comes from the CEC with a 6-digit code that is used only once.

After the code is written, the next steps continue, where the voter is asked to create a new password, which must contain 8 characters in total.

The CEC has explained that the application must be made only by standing in front of the camera where a real image of the face is captured.

Then, the voter enters their personal data, which must be consistent with what is on their identification document, whether it is an identity card or passport.

Once the voter is confirmed to have created his profile, he can submit his request to register.

Away from the media spotlight, the Socialists and Democrats have intensified efforts to find a new pact to amend the Electoral Code, so that the diaspora vote is not blocked due to insufficient deadlines.

Three days ago, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha confirmed negotiations with the Socialist Party for overseas voters.

"I know they are in negotiations. I know negotiations are taking place. I don't know what stage they are at," Berisha announced. He confirmed the Democrats' vote in favor of any change in favor of facilitating the diaspora vote.

The chief democrat did not provide details on the issues on the negotiating table, but it is learned that the possibility of bringing forward the registration deadlines for political entities, candidates and coalitions by 10 days is being assessed so that the ballot paper can be produced more quickly, to give the post office more time to return the envelope with the emigrant vote within the official deadline.

The second intervention has to do with reflecting the change in the Code, whereby the cost of returning the ballot is borne by the state and not the immigrant.

"Reasonable demands that favor transparency and the possibility of the diaspora voting will be approved by us, even if other legal changes are needed," Berisha emphasized.

Meanwhile, in a virtual meeting, the leader of the majority, Edi Rama, discussed yesterday with the Diaspora Board and political leaders to talk about starting the registration process of Albanians who will be part of the voting on May 11.

In less than 48 hours, 10,000 Albanians from the diaspora have registered on the CEC platform, and what is noticeable is the dominance of men compared to women. This is also a concern for the socialists, who have set up assistance points in countries like Italy and Greece, where the number of immigrants is higher, for their supporters who want to register.

Last week, Rama made another reconfiguration by replacing Eduard Shalsi, who went to be the political leader in Kukës, in unit 1 in Tirana, with the Minister of Interior, Ervin Hoxha, while Majko, after leaving Kukës, will work in the parliamentary speaker's area in Kavajë./ Panorama
