The Minister of Justice Ulsi Majna has publicly reacted for the first time to the serious event that happened today inside Peqin prison, where a prisoner executed another convict with a firearm.

Not a little revolted, Manja shows them in front of the cameras near Peqin prison, saying that everything is under control, and that the life of the prisoners is safe. However, he did not explain how he got the firearm in the prison, where the murder took place and why the author Sokol Mjacaj was ordered to be placed in the 41-bis regime, moments before the crime was made public.

Manja was confronted by journalists, but said that he will not speak as he cannot harm the investigations that the prosecutor's office has launched into the incident.

"After committing the crime, he was handed over to the director of the institution. After the handover, it was made available to the prosecutor's office of Elbasan. The event is serious, but there was no threat to the life safety of the personnel at any moment. For the dynamics of the event, we have to wait for the investigations being carried out by the prosecution and SHKB. I am the Minister of Justice and I am not a prosecutor. The dynamics of how the event took place, how the weapon entered, are issues that belong to the investigation. And I don't want to compromise any element of the investigation.

Sokol Mjacaj has been serving his sentence in IEVP Peqin, where we also have a special regime. Today, the Minister of Justice has ordered the placement in a special regime for other events related to the convict Sokol Mjacaj. There is a procedure for placing a person in a special regime, a procedure that I am obliged to follow. Please do not ask me questions that harm the investigation.

I am here today and will be in the following days to discharge all the responsibilities of the institution that I manage. Other criminal responsibilities belong to the prosecution. This event accelerated the issuance of the order to increase the level of readiness in prisons, it is a practice that is done near the holidays, but this event accelerated it. All the family members of the convicts should calm down. The situation in all our prisons is under control", declared Minister Manja.
