At the "Ukraine Recovery" conference being held in Rome, Prime Minister Edi Rama asked the EU to gather forces to make an ambitious and courageous plan to bring peace between Ukraine and Russia.

According to the head of the Albanian government, discussions about peace are not enough, but the time has come to act.

"My dear sister Giorgia, reminded everyone today that all roads lead to Rome!

Albania is a small country, with modest resources. It does not have the power to change much on the battlefield, but we have been and will be together with Italy and with our European friends and partners wherever and whenever Ukraine needs us to be.

"While we support Ukraine in its struggle and reconstruction, we must do our utmost not to let peace take second place in our thoughts. We must not let the word 'peace' further divide our democratic societies and alienate other parts of our society and sow discord between our societies," said Rama.

The Albanian Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of European unity, stating that others, outside the borders of the European Union, should not be allowed to dictate what peace is.

"We should not let anyone outside the borders of democratic Europe lecture us, the European Community, about what peace and war are and what this peace sounds like. We are not a warmongering community and Ukraine is not the aggressor nor the author of this bloody war at the gates of Europe, day and night. No one has a magic formula, of course, and I even less so.

Talking about peace does not stop war, nor does it make Vladimir Putin a peacemaker.

However, I want to conclude by sharing with you the conviction that while we are doing all the right things not to let Ukraine down, we will not be strong enough to end this war, to save Ukraine if we do not have our own powerful, courageous and attractive plan for peace. Peace is the only future that Europe can talk about. And as the late Pope Francis once said in Rome, I feel the presence not of the past, but of the future ”, emphasized Rama.
