Arlind Qori of Lévizje Bashke has been one of the most articulated names in recent days and mainly by the Prime Minister of the country, Edi Rama, who has put him at the center of his media attacks, labeling him as "Sudja with grandmothers".
Invited to the Breaking studio on Top News with the moderator Fiori Dardha, Qori said:
"It is unfortunate that the prime minister of a country lowers the level of political discussion so much. It's been since elementary school that no one tried to bully my eyesight. A 60-year-old man comes out and falls to the level of a third- or fourth-grade kalamani and tries to put me in a position or insult me because of the glasses I wear or my inability to see. However, it seems that Mr. Rama has lost his temper, he has lost his composure because he has put his shoulders against the wall from the protests that the Together movement has organized together with the pensioners. We will protest again on Wednesday, in front of the prime minister at 10 o'clock, again for dignified pensions and the living minimum".
Regarding the pension scheme, Arlind Qori said that he does not claim that pensions should be as high as Germany or Switzerland, but at least as high as the average of the Balkan countries.
"We are the country with the lowest pensions in the Balkans. We have them lower than Kosovo. The average pension in Albania is 180 euros, 228 in Kosovo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is 340 euros. In Macedonia it is 410 euros. In Serbia it is 440 euros, in Montenegro it is 450 euros. If we want to go to these countries, it does not seem to me a utopia, nor does it seem to me a disaster, but it seems to me a minimum right. What does that mean the minimum pension in Albania should not be below the level of eating bread. Is this really a utopia? Asking the state to support the weakest people, just enough to eat bread? This is really what you want to meet the basic needs? Not for everyone to take vacations in Hawaii, not for everyone to have a luxury villa, but just to eat bread, just to pay for medicine," he said.
But how will he implement the minimum wage, is it possible?
"Living minimum has several components. It means ensuring a minimum income for every person in need. If the living minimum was established and the minimum pension was as much as the living minimum that today is calculated at somewhere around 200,000 old lek and every other pension was increased by the same amount as the minimum pension increases to the vital minimum, this would cost the state more or less somewhere between 900 million and 1 billion euros per year. It is the same figure that is reported to be stolen in the reports of the High State Control or is wasted every year in Albania. So, if we only fought corruption, we could secure the money for the establishment of the minimum pension and other pensions. Now you can we do many other things. Today, Albania is one of the first countries in Europe and among the first in the world for informality of work. According to the International Labor Organization, 50-56 percent of those who work in Albania work illegally. All these are missing contributions in the social security scheme", said Qorri.
When asked by moderator Dardha about the rumors that he is financed by Soros and specifically what connects him with the Open Society foundation, Qori answered:
Nothing, nothing not today, not yesterday, not tomorrow. It's a lie, I don't know who invented it. I have heard it as I have heard all kinds of crazy things about me. When they have nothing to say, they will slander or insult. It is exactly the level of response given by Rama who deals with my glasses. This is the level of ability of our opponents to deal with our theses and to deal with our honest character. Unable to do this they invent slander when they insult everything else. We are on the right track. We are a party that sustains itself with the contributions of our 5,000 members.
But who is financing the Joint Movement?
" Starting from my salary. I leave somewhere around 10 percent of my net salary, to the coffers of the Joint Movement, to the salary of many activists and members of the movement together from Albania, yes, but more and more from the diaspora. We have many quotations since the first day of the establishment of the Joint Movement in December 2022, we make continuous appeals. The only party that calls for membership every day, and we have dozens of new members every day. Half of them are from the diaspora. On every call we come out and say: you have a bank account here, and a paypal account down here.
But we have very little cost, because we operate in simple ways, going on foot using the bus, reducing the costs of campaigning to the absolute minimum. I have an experience from Tirana that I went to every district of Tirana by bus, I used my car because I said I spend less 400 old ticket tickets than I use my car in Tirana and wherever possible"
