US, EU 'pressure' for Western Balkan membership

The United States of America is pushing the European Union to accelerate the integration of the Western Balkans to close the doors known well to any third-country influence, such as Russia, or China.

Washington has escalated meetings and contacts with Brussels in the wake of which Deputy Secretary of State Wendi Sherman met with eu foreign service head Stefano Sannino.

According to the statement distributed by the State Department, amid key foreign policy issues of common interest, coordination and continued strong co-operation in the Western Balkans was discussed to advance its European integration and stability.

The US voiced their support for the formal opening of EU membership negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania and for the EU-facilitated Pristina Dialogue in Belgrade.

The central part of the discussions was the war in Ukraine and the coordination of the West's response to Russian aggression in this country.
