US Senators: Get the "non grata" out of the system

The two US senators, Chris Murphy and Gary Peters, in an interview with A2 CNN, said that cleaning politics from corrupt elements is a process that must happen.

When asked what they think about the fact that in the elections a few days ago, two people declared "non grata" by the Secretary of State for major corruption and undermining democracy, led the campaign for two parties, Peters answered:

" It is important to ensure that the country fights corruption and removes it from politics in Albania. In order to build a strong democracy, people must have faith in the system, believe that the people who represent them are not corrupt in any way. So Albania must continue the journey to improve democracy, we all do it, even we in the United States of America work for this all the time. Democracy is not something you take and have, but it is a permanent challenge. You must constantly make sure that you are fighting for the principles of an open democratic society. At the end of the day, it is the citizens of Albania who must insist that corruption be removed from the system so that democracy can be strengthened here ."

While Senator Murphy emphasized: "Albania has made significant progress in the fight against corruption. Of course, there are still reforms to implement, but as of now we have seen positive progress in the judicial system where those who were inside the system and sought to take advantage of their positions are leaving and this is a real signal that this country is settled fight corruption. I think Senator Peters is right, we all have our struggles, don't we? The United States of America cannot go around the world and pretend to be perfect. Even our democracy has problems. So, one of the reasons why we are here is to work on common problems, so that there are more people who vote in elections and who punish these abusers even more wherever we can. These are common problems and we are committed to finding solutions for them".
