A former Albanian leader who has been declared 'non grata' causes political violence in Albania, in a country where violent political conflicts are very rare.
The words are taken from the latest report of the US Department of State on the investment climate, but they also had a paragraph about Sali Berisha.
They don't even deserve to refer to Berisha by name, but with the phrase 'former leader'
"Political violence is rare, the most recent cases being an attempt led by a former Albanian leader declared 'non grata' for corruption to break into party headquarters in January 2022 that required police intervention and political protests in 2019 that included cases of civil disobedience, violence and property damage, as well as the use of tear gas by the police. Albania's April 2021 elections and the transition to a new government were peaceful, as were local elections in June 2019. On January 21, 2011, security forces shot and killed four protesters during a violent political demonstration," it reads, among other things. in the report.
We recall that January 8, 2022 was a dramatic event for the Democratic Party, where supporters of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha attacked the headquarters of the Democratic Party.
It took the intervention of the police to bring the situation under control in a few minutes, as the lives of the deputies who were inside the headquarters as well as the then leader of the DP Lulzim Basha were seriously endangered./ DITA
