The Democratic Party opposed as unconstitutional the announcement of partial local elections in Himara, after the removal of Fredi Beler's mandate by the Central Election Commission. However, the opposition will not boycott the process and leave free ground to the socialists in this municipality. For this purpose, discussions have begun to identify the name that will compete against Vangjel Tavos, already officialized by the Socialist Party.

Sources from DP cite the agreement they have with PBDNJ of Vangjel Dules, according to which Himara is free ground for the party of the Greek minority. This means that the name that will run on August 4 will be proposed by Vangjel Dule.

There are not many alternatives and Dules' decision is not expected to have any surprises. The name that will be proposed, sources say, is that of Petro Beler, Fredi Beler's son. There are several reasons, but the main one is that the candidacy has created an almost personal relationship with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a relationship that will provide the opposition with the support of Athens in Himara.

If the support and influence of Athens is expected to be strong in these elections, the same cannot be said for sure about the support of the Democratic Party. Already with seal and sigle in the hands of Sali Berisha, the largest opposition party, sources say, is carefully examining the strategy it will follow in Himare to avoid the criticism it has received so far for supporting the controversial candidacy of Fredi Beleri.

The sources claim that the local structures of the party will engage in support of the candidate proposed by Vangjel Dule, but in order not to incur electoral costs before next year's parliamentary elections, the party's central figures will distance themselves from the active campaign.
