Prime Minister Edi Rama has just started a meeting at the Prime Minister with the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Bajram Begaj, also a candidate for President. During the meeting, Edi Rama will ask Begaj to officially accept the Socialist Party proposal.
The leader of the Socialist Party and at the same time the Prime Minister of the country, Edi Rama, at the end of the meeting of the presidency of the Socialist Party, expressed his confidence that he has the necessary votes to elect Begaj as the new head of state.
"We have reached the conclusion that Mr. "Bajram Begaj is the right person to be the President of the Republic of Albania for the next 5 years", said Prime Minister Rama.
He said that the example of Alfred Moisiu at the head of the Presidency has been followed to reach this proposal.
Begaj's name, Rama added, has been chosen among the 26 names that have been discussed in the SP Presidency.
"In the last list were 6 names, 3 women and 3 men", said Rama answering the question why there was no candidate for President.
Begaj, born in 1967, is the Chief of General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces.
