In the May 11 elections, the Socialist Party managed to win 83 seats, allowing Edi Rama to govern for another 4 years. The SP leader will sit in the new Parliament in September with a stronger parliamentary group, officially only one vote away from a qualified majority.
From the majority, 29 socialists renewed their MP contracts, while 54 others will sit in the Assembly for the first time.
46 deputies entered from the closed list and 37 deputies from the open list.
The 37 socialists who won the race on the open list also had a personal battle to capture the highest quotas in the preferential vote ranking.
In the top 10 of the most voted for SP, mainly new names stand out, such as Sara Mile and Ceno Klosi, or Arkend Balla, who entered Parliament only a few months ago after leaving the SP list.
Blendi Gonxhja, who was on the open list of the Socialist Party in Tirana, is the most voted candidate in all of Albania, receiving 24,802 votes.
Two veteran MPs, Erion Braçe and Fatmir Xhafaj, also stand out. Senator Braçe, despite his short time in Constituency 5 in Tirana, managed to take second place, while in the diaspora he showed that he was the most voted for among the leftists.
On the other hand, 21 Socialist MPs from the current group, although they were part of the lists, failed to survive the internal competition.
The May 11 votes removed well-known names from the SP, such as Pandeli Majko, Mimi Kodheli, Klotilda Bushka, Xhemaj Qefalia, Ermonela Felaj or Blerina Gjylameti, from the parliamentary majority.
