Rama: For Veliaj, personal pain, but justice must do its job
Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that the Socialist Party feels personal pain for Erion Veliaj, but stressed that justice must do its job. During a meeting with candidates from the Durrës district for the May 11 elections, he noted that it was the Socialist Party that paved the way for justice reform.

"We should be proud, not arrogant, for the fact that beyond personal pain, for human reasons, we don't like to see someone who was among us until yesterday, while today is in the hands of justice. But this would never have happened if we hadn't opened this lid. Here, 4 people were killed in the middle of the boulevard and no one was questioned. The prosecutor's orders were refused to be implemented. You understand where we were."

Rama accused the opposition of intending to damage SPAK, citing its stance on justice. "We did it. How is this. We did it and no one else can do it. They say it's a piece, on May 12 we will dissolve SPAK," he said.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that EU integration is necessary to guarantee equality before the law. "We are for justice reform, despite the problems and occasional errors, but we share this task of giving this sword that in history has been held by justice, but in Albania since 1912, the government has held it," he said.
