Prime Minister Edi Rama is holding a meeting with the candidates of the Durrës district for the Socialist Party, in the May 11 elections.

Surrounded by socialist structures and candidates for the 3 municipalities of the region, the prime minister also delivered a speech to those present, where he also presented the program.

Rama said that these elections are important for the country and geopolitics. He compared them to what happened to Albania in 1992, the transition, the start of pluralism and the first democratic elections that took place.

"What has happened and that you know is that Albania and Montenegro are in the EU, this is for geopolitical reasons but in today's conditions, for us it becomes an existential issue of Albania's security and defense while other relationships as you see are moving and changing between other countries. There are many people who say that this is idle talk because you want the next mandate and create all kinds of alibis.

You should be told that Montenegro opened negotiations in 2012, we officially opened them only a year after we spent 1 year screening and diagnosing the entire state organism for all the problems. Today we are side by side with Montenegro, the two countries that they see as the most likely to join the EU.

Serbia started them in 2014, and today they are behind us. When we took office, we were the last hole in the horse's hole. Macedonia became a candidate to join the EU in 2005 and has not yet opened them. These data are to show people that this is not a matter of talk," Rama said.

And he further emphasized that achieving the conclusion of negotiations in 2027 would be a record in itself.

"It is not an ordinary conversation but a complex issue, we are proud, I am extremely proud, because we are at the forefront, the countries that are running ahead, and not only that, but it has been accepted and we have agreed with the EU to close all negotiations within 2027, which will be an amazing record in the entire history of integration. Our merit is that we found ourselves at the right time and place in this history, to be prepared when the moment comes", said Rama, among other things.
