Rama in Abu Dhabi: We are finalizing the agreement for the underwater energy
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama is on an official visit to Abu Dhabi.

The head of government, through a message on social networks, declared that the trilateral agreement for the underwater energy connection between Albania and Italy will be finalized.

Rama added that this agreement will set another milestone on Albania's path towards energy independence.

" Greetings from Abu Dhabi. We are about to set another milestone on our path to energy independence. Together with the Prime Minister of Italy, our dear friend, Giorgia Meloni, at the invitation of the President of the United Arab Emirates, another friend, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, we are initiating the trilateral agreement for the underwater energy connection between Albania and Italy, as well as the increase in solar energy production in Albania. The connection will have triple ownership, and on the other hand will be supported by significant joint investments in increasing Albania's production capacities.

This also serves our ambition to become import-independent, but it also gives us a role soon as an exporter to the EU. Albania is today the country with the highest capacity of household or business self-producers of solar energy in the region. Solar energy has gone from zero percent to nearly 10 percent of our domestic energy production.

Our plan is to reach 30 percent within our fourth mandate. Albania was the only country in the region that did not increase the price of electricity during the European crisis of 2022-2023 and as of February 1, Albania will become the only European country to reduce the price of energy, no less than 10.5 percent. With this measure, we become among the countries with the lowest price in Europe and the region and save our citizens 31 million euros per year on their electricity bill , "he emphasized.
