The Special Prosecutor's Office has completed the investigations by taking to the GJKKO the file in charge of Arben Ahmetaj regarding the privatization of the former bakery.
Accusations have been brought against Ahmetaj for the criminal offense of abuse of office in the amount of damages of around 7 billion lek, as the former number two of the government has been under international search for the incinerator of Elbasan and unexplained wealth for months.
The Special Prosecutor's Office continues the investigation for 7 other people, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and against businessman Lirim Fezollari, who, according to SPAK, also benefited from privatization when Ahmetaj was Minister of Finance. But only the latter was informed of the accusation through his lawyer.
It is suspected that there was a relationship between Ahmetaj and the businessman beyond institutional communication, from which he managed to privatize the shares of the company "Buka Sh.a". located in one of the most coveted spots in Tirana.
Regarding this procedure, the predecessor of Ahmetaj Shkëlqim Cani had rejected it, as the latter was asked by SPAK about this issue months ago. The property of thousands of square meters has been recognized since 1994 by the Agency for Restitution and Compensation, to the Myderzi family.
But through an open auction procedure in 2014 and subsequent auctions and other procedures until 2022, businessman Lirim Fezollari became the beneficiary of the company's state shares. The former deputy prime minister is under international investigation in the framework of two previous proceedings combined into one, for "Concealment of wealth", "Passive corruption" and "Money laundering".
Some assets and properties have been seized from him and some of them are suspected to have been placed thanks to the relationship with the owners of the incinerators Klodian Zoto and Mirel Mërtiri who are also wanted.
