Primaries/ Ilir Alimehmeti withdraws from the runoff, Belind Këlliçi

Belind Kelliçi is officially a candidate of "Reestablishment" for the Municipality of Tirana for the local elections held on May 14, 2023.

In a joint exit for the media from the blue seat, Ilir Alimehmeti announced his withdrawal from the runoff, which is expected to be held on December 11, as Kelliçi presented Alimehmeti as the right wing of his campaign.

Alimehmeti stated that the membership spoke clearly in favor of Kelliç and that the first sign of citizenship is the recognition of the vote.

"We are here at the headquarters of the Democratic Party less than 24 hours from the primaries when the membership later expressed who they would like to be the candidate for the Municipality of Tirana. In respect of the vote of the membership, we are here to speak. We thank each observer for a process that went without any remarks. I was convinced that it was the membership that should be avoided. The membership spoke in favor of the candidate Belind Kelliçi. This is the first sign of citizenship. To know the vote. I thank everyone who supported me. I will continue to work for you for the May 14 elections",  he said.

Meanwhile, Kelliçi declared that PD will select the American model to choose candidates and that Ilir Alimehmeti will be the next deputy mayor of the municipality if they win on May 14.

"Today, Albanians are surprised by this standard set in Albanian politics. My main focus was on the base and membership of the Democratic Party. This was a civil and civic campaign, we are with each other again. I am convinced that this is a good omen in Albanian politics. I am proud to have been part of this process and to take it a standard further today we will publicly adapt an American form of competition, the presidential form. As in America I have the greatest pleasure today that when I entered this journey, I was convinced that I would beat Veliaj in the race for Tirana, with Alimehmet as my right-hand man and deputy mayor of Tirana from May 14, we will bring a completely different model." said the Horse.

We remind you that in the process of "Primaries", Belind Këlliçi managed to get 4040 votes out of 8470 votes in total, 200 votes less to reach 50%. While Ilir Alimehmeti received 2196 votes.
