President Begaj quietly decrees the much-debated law on gender equality

President Bajram Begaj silently passed the law on gender equality.

The political conflict over this act was so great that the head of the EU Delegation, Silvio Gonzato, and the Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, were also involved in the debate.

The controversy was related to the way the parties interpreted certain articles of the law: according to the opposition, they legally guaranteed rights for the LGBTIQ+ community, while the socialist majority argued that the act was a request from the European Union.

Begaj preferred not to express any public stance on the law, decreeing it silently.

We recall that a large number of public and religious figures demanded that the law be approved by referendum, but this did not happen.
