Denmark to open embassy in Tirana, Danish Foreign Minister: We must support them
Copenhagen

Denmark is getting ready to open its embassy in Albania in 2026.

This is reported in the publication of the Danish media The Copenhagen Post , mentioning the fact that the Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, has informed the Foreign Policy Committee about changes to the Danish diplomatic structure, which also includes the opening of an embassy in Tirana.

It is also learned that Denmark will open an Embassy in Argentina, for its strategic political purposes, while it will close its diplomatic headquarters in Myanmar and upgrade the current Embassy in Vietnam to a Consulate level.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, stated regarding the issue:

"The world is changing rapidly. This presents us with new challenges, but it also entails great opportunities. We must have a strong and up-to-date foreign service that is present in countries where our vital interests are at stake, and we have moved further in this direction today."

With an Embassy in Tirana, Denmark – according to Danish media reporting – will be able to support Albania's desire to become an EU member and strengthen its resistance, including against negative influence from Russia.

While the establishment of a new Danish embassy in Argentina should be seen in light of the ambition to increase Denmark's engagement in Latin America, Argentina is an important player on the continent, and an embassy will offer an opportunity to expand our trade relations.
