The end of 2022 seemed like the finalization of the DP merger, but 2023 brought them back to zero. The quarrel was reopened with Alibeaj's expulsion of four deputies from the parliamentary group.

Mediu :  There was a positive premise with what Mziu organized. In that meeting, I saw both a human and a political relationship. After this meeting we discussed how we can proceed to reach a consensual candidate. It is more urgent than anything else. The emergence of the opposition with more than one candidate creates costs that can lead to defeat. The losses of the municipalities that we claim will be won also create a negative premise for the parliamentary elections.

A won municipality creates better chances to win more MP seats. One-sidedness creates problems, it does not solve problems. Consensus is needed, in the first place about the candidacies. They should be given the authority to negotiate on a platform that can lead to a solution. PD is neither what it is today, nor what it was yesterday, it is a 30-year history. There is a need for a group of wise people to engage in this process. If we sit without prejudice without saying this one is sold, this one is bought, they can coordinate the attitudes that are valid for the Albanian society.

Historical ally of DP, Mediu said that despite this debate, there has never been any question about the relationship with this party.

Mediu :  No, I have never been in question. The Democratic Party and the Republican Party have almost become one. The attitude was not only for electoral interests, they were like two communication vessels. The existence of political parties is not only about ideas but also about electoral success.

The media also emphasizes the strengthening of DP relations with EPP and IDU.

Mediu :  It is very important that DP, in the relationship it has with EPP and IDU, build an inherent narrative and turn it into a partner both in the electoral processes and in the political and unification processes. None will become part of the quarrel.
