The Democratic Party, through the Anti-Corruption Spokesperson, Genta Vangjeli, has requested new dates for the 'Giro d'Italia' in Albania, as May 11 is election day and state structures must be engaged in their security.
Statement by the Anti-Corruption Spokesperson in the Democratic Party, Genta Vangjeli:
The 108th edition of the 'Giro d'Italia' that will take place in Albania in May will cost our country 7 million euros and will be covered by the budget reserve fund.
Earlier, a fund of 1 million euros was allocated to the organizers, while on March 6, through Council of Ministers No. 147, a fund of 4 million euros was approved to finance the second installment of the contract for the realization of the first three rounds of the 'Giro d'Italia 2025' and the difference is expected to be allocated in the future.
The event itinerary includes the cities of Tirana, Durrës and Vlora, starting on May 9th, and continuing on May 10th and 11th, the latter day coinciding with the date decreed by the President for the holding of the parliamentary elections.
In the context of the development of this process so important for Albanians, the date May 11 is inappropriate for the development of cycling competitions.
Under these conditions, the Democratic Party requests that new dates be negotiated for the development of this event, given that the supporting structures of this cultural event, including the State Police, must be prepared for the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
