Freedom Party MP Erisa Xhixho has accused the government of corruption in the Llogara Tunnel project, stating that "the theft amounted to 75 million euros" and that this, according to her, did not happen without the knowledge of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
"First, let's analyze what happened, and this is a scandal. You can steal from a people, but you can steal from the poorest in Europe... We are dealing with a pure corrupt affair of over 50 million euros from the cancellation of the first and second tenders by Balluku," said Xhixho.
She added that the initial tunnel project envisaged two bridges, which were removed in the final version, while the cost increased by an additional 25 million euros.
"The theft amounts to 75 million euros. Undoubtedly, in this decision-making, the apples and pears were not eaten behind Edi Rama's back. Here we have a corrupt system, a collaboration between Rama and Balluk," declared the PL MP.
Xhixho also stressed that Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who she said was primarily responsible for the alleged affair, should have been dismissed.
"We are in a situation where we have an indictment — she should have resigned or been fired. But Ms. Balluku continues to work, while Meta has been held in solitary confinement for a year, criminally arrested. There is no criminal fact against him," she added.
